This guide is offered as a practical guide to the three main climbing areas around Bendigo: Mt Buffalo, Mt Arapelies and the Grampians. Eash of these areas are within 3 or 4 hours drive, making them just out of reach as local crags and somewhat impractical for a quick couple of pitches on a summer's evening. Closer to Bendigo, the granite outcrops at Kooyoora, Mt Alexander and Mt Hope provide accessible climbing of not more than an hours drive away. None of these hills have the size or scope of Mt Buffalo's outcrops, slabs and gorges, nor the intricacy and variety of the Grampians and Arapelies sandstone. However, Mt Hope has some 2 pitch routes, Kooyoora has some tunnels and caves, and the spread of outcrops and devious access at Mt Alexander means that getting lost is quite possible. The combination of areas offers good variety of climbing and some beautiful bush settings.
